Improve Your Allergies

Have your 2021 allergies kicked in yet? There are quite a few ways we can help you get ahead of them this year! From air duct cleaning to mold removal to everything in between, Sooner Cleaning + Restoration has tips (and services!) to help you decrease the severity of your allergies this year.

1. Check for mold.

You might be thinking mold would only grow in your house if there had been a flood or other noticeable water damage, but unfortunately, that’s not always the case! Mold can grow anywhere moisture tends to gather and linger (think under your sink, in window sills, and in basements).

According to the Allergy & Asthma Network, when you breathe in mold, it can cause side effects like “nasal and sinus congestion, sore throat, sneezing, watery or burning eyes, dry cough, shortness of breath, and irritation of the nose, throat, or even skin” (Source). These side effects can become difficult to distinguish from seasonal allergies.

Not all molds are the same and not all people react to mold the same, so knowing if you are more sensitive is important. Watching the allergy reports can keep you informed.

If you suspect you might have mold growing in your home, give us a call! We can address your concerns.

2. Clean your carpets, upholstery, and rugs.

Getting your carpets, upholstery, and rugs professionally cleaned to reduce the severity of allergies should be a no-brainer. We all know our carpets trap dust over time, but did you know that they can also trap pollen, pet dander, and other serious allergens (Source)?

According to Premier Allergy & Asthma, if you’re not using the proper vacuum with HEPA filtration you might be making the problem worse by circulating particles in the air (Source). The way to do it? Call the professionals. (That’s us.) Having your carpets, upholstery, and rugs professionally cleaned before allergy season kicks into high gear can help you stay on top of it!

3. Get your air ducts cleaned.

If you’re spending a large amount of time inside, like most of us are these days, you’re sure to experience the effects of compromised air quality. Dust, fungal spores, and other allergens can become trapped as your HVAC system works hard to filter them out. If you don’t get your air ducts cleaned every so often, these allergens can build up and start to circulate through your home.

Allergist Anthony Montanaro, MD. says that “To me, it’s always been a commonsense move. If you’re sensitive to what’s found in dust, it’s to your best advantage to minimize exposure to it” (Source).
